South Carolina "Spring Training" Road Trip
10th Anniversary in 2018..!
March 17th to 23rd
Get a jump on the 2018 Cycling Season... The LapDogs Cycling Club, together with host and tour-guide extraordinaire Jean “the Bullet” Michaud, is once again preparing for its annual Spring Cycling Trip to South Carolina. With 2018 being our 10th Anniversary of heading down to South Carolina (that's 70 in Dog Years), we are looking to create something very unique for all who attend. We have an unprecedented 10 cabins reserved in Table Rock State Park, all within the main cabin area (no more post-campfire slogs home up that steep hill!) Last year's trip was a highlight for all who attended, and created serious envy for those following along on social media from home. The FOMO is real! We're expecting to practically double participation this year, so more variety of rides, both in distance and pace, can be arranged to suit everyone.
Our base camp at Table Rock State Park is ideally situated in an area that offers fantastic opportunities for amazing rides... everything from gently rolling terrain down quiet country roads to leg-burning climbs and screamingly fast descents..., no matter what your riding ability is, you’ll be able to get in a wide variety of road rides. The amazing mountain bike trail systems of Dupont and Pisgah forests nearby, plus epic gravel/forest roads through the mountains, give further options if pavement alone is not entertaining enough for you (excellent rental bikes available in Brevard, NC).
Price for the Cabins, 6 nights (lower than 2017; thanks loonie!):
- Queen bedroom: $650
- Double bedroom: $550
- Sofa bed: $350
- Bunkbed: $300
The Table Rock cabins are all very comfortable and clean with modern amenities, full kitchens, porches, fireplaces and outdoor fire pits, renovated within in the last few years. Of those reserved, eight are two bedroom (queen or double), some with pull-out sofa beds in living room (recommended for singles). Cabin #12 has three bedrooms - one double plus two bunkbed rooms plus sofa bed for 7 or 8 people max. If you wish the three bedroom cabin please put together your group request in the next week, after which beds could be allocated individually. Specific cabin requests can be considered but not guaranteed - based on both the order deposits are received and filling the beds. Please note your preferred and second-choice room type, and cabin mates if known, and we'll do our best.
A deposit will secure your spot(s): $300 per bedroom, $150 per sofa bed or bunk. Refundable (minus a $20 fee) up to February 14, Valentine's Day. Later cancelations up to March 2nd may receive a partial refund depending on the situation.
Please e-mail your requests to Jean (cc Ian) soon - addresses in the e-mail invitation you may have received, or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note that pets are not allowed in the cabins, but there are serviced campsites a short stroll through the woods where they are allowed - some of our #vanlife friends are seriously considering this option.
Though the official trip is 6 nights this year (Friday check-out), some regulars are already considering extra days in the south, be it brewery hopping in Asheville, NC, or an assault on Mount Mitchell, highest peak in eastern North America. Car pooling/convoying there and back is recommended and has provided some fun side-trip en-route - Pittsburgh, Morgantown, architecture tourism (e.g., FLW's Falling Water)... many opportunities.
Participants in the organized rides must be 2018 LDCC (or other OCA club) Members or hold a 2018 OCA/CCA or UCI Race License or citizen permit.
